It is unknown how the University of Michigan came to use the wolverine as its mascot. One theory suggests it dates to 1803 when the state of Michigan and the state of Ohio argued over how to draw the state line, with Michiganders being called wolverine-like for its appetite for more land. It is only fitting that Ohio State has been Michigan's biggest rival in college sports. No matter the generation, 'Beat Ohio State' is a mantra all Michigan fans embrace.
